Saturday, July 6th - Serenbe

With only a couple full days left of Grammie Wright's visit, Jim had the wonderful idea for us to all head down to Serenbe.  This was my third visit, the kids' second, and Jim and Norma's first and I was very excited to go back.  I just love the vibe of the community, and the peaceful, beautiful countryside.

After arriving to the Serenbe community (a roughly 45-60 minute drive), we started by hitting up the charming little farmer's market to pick up some of our favorite jam and a few other yummy items as well.

Grammie Wright and her crew (I just desperately wanted Lincoln to "act natural" for ONE picture... this is the pose he gave. Sigh.)

No, I did not ask them to do this - it was spontaneous.

They're just such goofballs. All.Of.The.Time.

After browsing around the farmer's market and buying more than we meant, we headed to The Farmhouse for lunch.  It was National Fried Chicken Day (seriously), so we did our patriotic duty and ate some of the most fabulous chicken, macaroni & cheese and collard greens. Yum!

Victoria loved this pretty little flower that was on the table :-)

Post lunch veranda sitting - Jim and Waverly.

Post-lunch veranda dancing... several guests at the attached Inn were sitting nearby and quite amused and entertained by our little dancing troupe.

The grounds surrounding the restaurant were so pretty and we took some time after lunch to explore.  The kids loved the little pathways, hidden swings and lovely flowers.

Jim, of course, was quick to zero in on a half-basketball court, and was completely undeterred by holding a flopsy one-month-old in his arms.

Throwing full-sized basketballs is tiring when you're 3, so Lincoln rustled up some crab apples laying around and threw those instead.

Earlier at the farmer's market, we had seen a sign for The Treehouse - it looked like a fun little kid's play area back on one of the many trails around the Serenbe community.  The sky had looked ominous all day, and in fact it had rained pretty hard while we were eating lunch, but the shower had passed and we decided to try and find the playscape. This turned into quite a fun adventure!

We started off on a wooden pathway, but it quickly turned into a slightly overgrown trail.

It started to sprinkle a little and we almost turned around to head back after trekking about for 10 or 15 minutes and not being able to find the play area.  Finally, Jim spotted it in the far distance and we hustled along to get out of the rain, and came to a break in the trail.  The picture doesn't do it justice, as the drop off was steeper than it appears, and the trail was muddy and SLIPPERY!!

Lincoln, working on a solution to get across to the other side.

Jim and I were rather puzzled by the lack of any way to cross over the creek.  Then we looked a bit downstream and saw a very nice, new-looking bridge... totally ripped out of it's footers and smashed against a tree further down.  It seemed that all of our days and days of torrential rain may have been the culprit.

Jim managed to hop all of the kids across and jump to the other side.  I threw my flip flops to the opposite bank, hiked up my skirt and walked across. It was cold!!  Norma was the real trooper, and just trudged through, tennis shoes and all.

Such a cool spot!

Up in the Treehouse!  We made it there just in time for a nice rain shower to come through.  Fortunately we could all fit inside comfortably and wait for it to pass.

Me: "Lincoln, please stop throwing the [big] rocks and tree limbs around."

Lincoln: "But... I just HAVE to."

Jim found his response quite funny :-p

Staying dry!

When the rain finally stopped, we made it back to the van and drove over to Fern's Market - it's essentially a posher version of a general store.  There we indulged in some King of Pops popsicles (my absolute favorite: chocolate and sea salt - oh, so good!).

This boy was covered in chocolate.

Scarlett and Jim both opted for the Lemon & Basil flavor.

Waverly was such a good, sweet baby girl all day!  She is such a joy :-)  She really seemed to enjoy her time on the gazebo, rocking away with Grammie Wright while the big kids played.  I can't believe she is one month old already!

Smiley, happy girl :-)

Enjoying the in-ground trampoline after finishing their popsicles.

A great end to a wonderful day!
