Thursday, August 22nd

The kids had been looking forward all week to our SASCH group's "Tie Dye Party" event!  We would be making tie dye shirts for ourselves so that on big field trips and outings, it would be easy to spot one another and snag fleeing tie-dyed children as they dart away ;-)  It was such a fun, well organized event and even though it was a swelteringly hot day, everyone behaved beautifully (even the moms! haha).

We needed to be loading up the van by 9:40 a.m. in order to arrive on time at 10:00 a.m.  Considering we weren't up and eating breakfast until 7:45, it's amazing that we managed to leave on schedule.  Getting 5 bodies fed, dressed, groomed, shoe'd, plus a lunch made and packed requires all hands on deck; fortunately Victoria was eager to sit and "read" (re-tell) to the baby. I was hustling around but I had to pause and sneak a picture; she was really doing such a sweet job, telling Waverly about the story, then showing her the corresponding picture.  The baby was really smiling about being read to by a big sister :-)

Oh, I love them!  They are getting so big so very quickly~

The tie-dye stations set up.

The kiddos listening attentively to the instructions and to find out which group they were in; one group at a time worked on their shirts, while the other two groups played.  Again, such a well organized and well planned event!  Great job, Mrs. Lawson!

It was H-O-T outside.  Fortunately there was a lot of shady spots but there was pretty much no breeze.  Just one of those days where you are sweating even while standing still... in the shade. HOT. I stripped Waverly down to just her diaper as soon as we got there and put her in the (fortunately very light weight) wrap.  She was dozing right away.

Me and my baby-love, enjoying our time sweating together ;-)  What would I do without my baby-wearing wraps?? I don't know!

We were assigned to group number three, the last to take our turn with the tie-dying.  Not to worry, there were lots of yard toys to play with, swings, and some friendly horses from the neighboring property to feed!  Lincoln was determined to catch something with this net.

Fun with bubbles!

Scarlett had caught one of Victoria's bubbles, and Victoria was trying to do the same :-)

Lincoln brought me this whirligig and wanted me to show him how to use it.  Because I am handy like that, I pretty much spun it directly into the ground.  My friend Marie was able to accurately show him how to work it... and she whirled it so well it ended up on top of one of the canopies! haha  We are all so talented ;-)

Waverly slept in the wrap for the better part of two hours, then had a bottle and chilled out in her stroller in front of a fan.  One of the little girls in our group was peering in at her and said, "She has a gnat or something on her First Chin." I thanked her and she walked off and then I just died laughing.

Our group's turn had finally arrived!  The kids had been getting anxious to join the fray, and were eager to don their official-looking gloves and get busy dyeing the shirts. Victoria loved that one of the older girls helped her - she enjoys being mentored by the older girls :-)  Then she worked on her pattern.

So serious :-)

All business!  They really enjoyed the process and while it would have been infinitely simpler to just have the moms do it, I *love* that they got to learn the process, get their hands dirty, and do it themselves. True learning!

Mrs. Lawson snagged these pics of us as we got ready to eat our banana snack.  Waverly was fast asleep on me in the wrap.  Love my crew and our fun day!
