Wednesday, August 21st

Waverly had her 2-month doctor's appointment early Wednesday morning, and the kids stayed home with Gram while I took her.  Gram was leaving to go on a trip, but fortunately Nana was working from home and tagged in until I could get back home! :-)  The kids played well while I was gone, and Waverly did a terrific job at the doctor's office, weighing in at an impressive 13.85 pounds and astonishing the nurse (who measured her three times to make sure it was accurate, lol) by being 25 inches long.  She is actually off their charts, but they just consider that to be in the 98th percentile since that is as high as it goes.  I think we might have a tall one this time ;-)

When we got back home, Lincoln was watching a show in Nana's room so I dove into one-on-one math and reading time with each girl, then we gathered together for Passport Club fun.  Later in the evening the kids had karate, and when we got back home their good friend from next door came over to play for a while.  A full, good day!

We read "Tikki Tikki Tembo," a book I remember loving as well.  The kids loved-loved-loved this book and we read it three times throughout the day.

We read additional pages from our True Book: China, and discussed the national arts and the difference between our alphabet and Chinese characters.  I thought it would be really fun for them to practice the Chinese style of calligraphy, so they worked on painting in these two symbols.  While they painted I played Chinese music - Lincoln said it sounded "terrible" (haha), while the girls enjoyed it and eventually got up to dance to the songs.  Scarlett declared, "This sounds like the music on 'Mulan!'"

Their finished Chinese characters (Victoria's two on the top, Scarlett's two in the middle, and Lincoln's two on the bottom).

Before nap time, I let them play their Nooks for a while.  It's funny because we have the whole entire house - they could conceivably all be in different rooms - and yet they always wind up sitting together ;-)

We had a lot of no-nap days over the summer, but now with being back to doing more school every day than simply reading and math, I've found that Victoria and Lincoln really need naps most days.  Even if it's only an hour or so of sleep, they are so much more refreshed and have a better disposition!  However, Scarlett is really past naps for the most part (she'll still take one every once in a while) but is a good sport and lays down with the kids, then gets up and comes to join me once they've fallen asleep.

Often, the baby is resting during this time too - she just sort of fell into their schedule for afternoon naps and bedtime.  But today she was wide awake and wanting to be talked to; however, Scarlett really, really wanted me to sew a new patch onto her karate uniform so she volunteered to play with Waverly.  She had so many sweet kisses for her and had her coo'ing and smiling.

She *hearts* her baby sister!

I was talking to Waverly and she was "talking" back to me, so expressively!  I'm sure she thinks she is holding down her side of the conversation :-)

Oh these three girls!  The antics they pull :-)  Here they were the bad guy team - Victoria is doing a karate kick, Charlotte has her fearsome lightsaber and Scarlett is giving a death glare
:-p

Now just silly...

Crazy girls! I love 'em!
