Monday, September 23rd

Fortunately, I had put together our daily school agenda before leaving on our weekend getaway so it wasn't too difficult to get back in gear come Monday morning!  We had a good school day, followed by the kids' karate class in the early evening, dinner, and outdoor playtime with daddy and grammie while I got to go to the gym.

Everyone was dressed, fed and we took a few minutes to watch a show together before diving into school.  Like I've mentioned before - homeschool dogs are the happiest ;-)

This is how Waverly watches tv... like there's going to be a test afterward.  She definitely would have been Gramps' girl! lol  He would have had her watching wrestling like a pro by six months old.

For Bible time, we discussed Philippians 3:13-14: "But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."  I asked the kids a lot of observational questions about the picture of the woman running.  What was she doing?  Where was she looking?  Did she seem to be going fast or slow? What kind of attire and shoes did she have on, and why?  Next we practiced running slowly in the dining room - first, looking back behind us.  Everyone eventually fell over or ran into something ;-)  A very keen Victoria said, "No one would run while only looking backwards!!!"  True!  But so often we get hung up on hurts, disappointments, our own mistakes, and so forth and forget to focus on moving forward.

Bible Journal time.

The girls worked on their new spelling list for the week.

He's doing so well writing the letters we've been practicing, but for a change of pace I had him use the wooden pieces and quizzed him on the process of forming the letters. It was a breeze for him and so next week we'll add two more letters to the mix.

We reconvened at the table for our SQUILT lesson - this was a new week, new composer: "The Prince of Denmark's March" by Jeremiah Clarke.

They completed their "Draw What You Hear" pages (Lincoln's on top, Scarlett's bottom left, Victoria's bottom right).  All were quick to identify that the song was in a major key and felt it was a pretty happy song.

As the trumpet and pipe organ are the only two instruments featured in the version we listened to, we took time to discuss the trumpet and how they have morphed over the centuries (millennia, truly) from a crude way of signaling with a loud tone to the much more elaborate instrument we know today.

Break time!  Kids played for a long time and then I did the girls one-on-one math and reading after little miss finished eating :-)  She is so sweet and snuggling and her little dimpled hands open and close on mine while she eats. I love her so!

It was time to take last week's books back to the library, but we read through these five one final time during lunch.

Just before naptime, I looked in the living room and saw Grammie was getting some pretty terrific snuggles!  These kids sure do love her!

After dinner, when it was time for me to head out, Jim decided to take Waverly on a little walk... I drove past and Jim told me he was going to make the same expression as the baby ;-)  The too-serious crew at it again!  I swear, Waverly is the most contented baby, but she has only two facial settings - huge smiles/laughing, and total poker face.  haha
